This guide will cover how to control where your bot will be seen on your site and how it will be presented to the user.
--
To modify trigger settings, navigate to the Triggers tab at the top of your bot while in edit mode.
Choose the pages of your site to display the bot
First you will decide if the bot should open on any page of your site that the JavaScript has been added, OR if it should be limited to select pages.
1. "Launch on every page"
This will show your bot on every page of your site.
2. Select "Launch on specific page(s)"
This will only launch the bot on the pages you specify.
For example, if you user is on a page discussing pricing plans, you can create a bot that prompts them for information to create an account.
Add a trigger where the URL must contain the word 'pricing'
Now when the bot is published, it will only appear if the page URL contains the word 'pricing'
Note: if multiple bots are eligible for the same page, the bot that was most recently published will launch
Pro-tip: We recommend using "Contains" when possible, rather than "Exactly". If you're having trouble with your "Exactly" settings please get in touch with us at help@instabot.io and we'd be happy to help get things set up to your specifications.
2. Add additional URL requirements
You can add multiple URL requirements including Does Not Contain conditions to make the bot appear on all pages with a few exceptions.
When to use "any" vs "all":
- "all" will tell Instabot that each trigger has to match for the bot to show
- "any" will tell Instabot that either of the triggers must be met for the bot to show
Persistent Button vs. Automatic Launch
An Instabot can appear on your site as either a persistent button or an automatic launch.
A persistent button will appear as a floating button on your page. In this configuration, Instabot will only launch when the user engages with the button! In this method, you can grab a user's attention by creating an optional teaser message as well. We recommend starting with the persistent button + custom teaser to launch your bot!
An automatic launch will open your chatbot automatically without the user engaging with anything. You can customize when and to who an automatic launch (as well as a button) will appear for.
To set how the bot should open
1. Navigate to the How section of the Triggers page
2. Choose which type of launch you would like.
The Both option will launch the bot automatically when the page is loaded then keep the bot available as a persistent button
